Built in 1620, Anna Sewell House is one of the most historic buildings in Norfolk. The birthplace of the authoress of Black Beauty, this delightful cottage was a museum until the late 70's. At one stage plans were afoot to dismantle it brick by brick and ship it to the USA. Fortunately, permission was refused and it has most recently been used as a tea-room. In October 2007 Richard Hughes purchased the lease and set about refurbishing the building.
Under the direction of Head Chef Julia Hetherton, the menu will offer four starters, four main courses and four desserts, at a fixed price of £29.95. All the produce will be locally sourced, and the menu will be changed monthly and posted on this web site. There will be a small wine list of unusual, great value bottles from EDP columnist Keith Reeves of Weavers Way Wine.

Richard began his career some 30 years ago at The Imperial Hotel on Great Yarmouth seafront, so the opening of Anna Sewell House is something of a homecoming! Richard is also a partner in The Pigs: a classic English pub at Edgefield, Holt, which he opened in 2006 with Iain Wilson of Byfords of Holt. www.thepigs.org.uk
